Keep these resources and bring them into 2021

by | Dec 30, 2020

Let’s take a look and be aware of how 2020 looked. I’m sure we can all agree it was uncertain. We all lost our plans, our patterns, friends, family, and the list continues. But, let’s think realistically, life can never be 100% sure. We can never be sure what is going to happen. Some people are OK with this and find it easy to embrace new experiences. Other people struggle with uncertainty. It is almost as if they have a phobia of it, and they often do things like worry, or plan in an attempt to reduce the uncertainty. More than that, we’ve started to not recognize each other, due to the masks, and we don’t socialize anymore. Nothing is as we knew and called normal.

This year gave us a big opportunity to understand that it doesn’t matter that we are lawyers and we work with justice, we do not have control as we used to have it. The level of negative emotions has increased so much. But let’s be clear, our intention is not to remind you of the bad energy of 2020. We just want you to be aware and understand that we all have, inside of us, the power of hope. And this power shapes how we approach things.

We know lawyers are facing a lot of crises and we all know that lawyers are not superhuman. This pandemic is a big challenge for lawyers, too.

I would like to invite you to revisit what the positive part of this year was, for you. How did you benefit from this uncertainty? How much did you motivate yourself to seek certainty? When we talk about elevating your life and profession we want to cover this holistic picture of profession including more life…more of you. It is the title of our book, More than a Lawyer.  Being more than a lawyer gives you a way to think out of the box and find new ways of doing things…a new way of thinking.

This was 2020, it forced us to find strategies to these circumstances. It’s important to think that this is just temporary. Seek new experiences and create space in your life to make a difference. As much as you have become comfortable with uncertainty, the less frustration you have in your life, you’ll automatically become more creative.

Now, here we are at the end of the year. Make a list of unpleasant things, emotions and events. Then decide to let it go!!! Next, make a list with your lessons learned and anything you earned as a benefit from this year. Keep these resources and bring them into 2021.

When you think about 2021, make a vision of how you want it to be. What kind of energy are you looking for? What kind of experiences? What kind of people do you want to meet? And, in general, how do you see the best version of yourself?  How will you feel at the end of 2021?

Take time and meditate on this new year and new you!
